Canvas prep references...

I found a few links that you can use as a reference if you're prepping a canvas outside of class and need a reminder (or if you missed the demo!)...

We want to use the first technique she shows here...starting from the center and working out towards the edges/corners...this pushes any potential wrinkles or buckles off the edges of the canvas. After the initial coat, be sure to do 2 additional coats; alternate one coat with brushstrokes applied in the direction of the width of the canvas and another coat with brushstrokes applied in the direction of the length of the canvas. Applying additional coats in this way ensures that the canvas is sealed and that the layers of gesso are built up in a way that strengthens the base layer that we'll be painting on.
