Kerner Narrative Collage

For my narrative collage, I combined a realistic pocket watch, a cartoon brain, and a neuron pattern in the background. I distorted the numbers on the pocket watch and stretched the brain stem to make it feel as though the brain is getting sucked into the watch. I wanted to play with the idea of how our sense of self and our entire identities are held in our minds, and how we have a constant battle with time to both develop that sense of self and also slowly lose it. I wanted this sort of tug-of-war feeling to be present in the painting. The cartoon of the brain represents the childishness we all try to preserve and the youth we seek in our minds as we age. The photographic watch pulls that back into reality. I also combined warm and cool palettes to add to the contrast and oppositional feeling.
